When It Rains by LM Bluejay

Lock n' Key

Lock n' Key

.

They sat in the manor’s pub.

Bleary eyes glanced across the room. “What are they two talking about?” Sesshomaru sniffed.

“Mi’lord, I think you’ve had enough.” Gurinman wrestled the emptied glass from him. “Perhaps they’re just talking out their differences?”

“But they don’t get along for tits.”

Gurinman whistled to the bartender. “I’ll have another round of Baiju. The Lord will partake in a cup of water.”

“Is the apple juice still too strong? I can dilute it further?”

“Water’s fine.” The demon left at his dismissal. “You know you really ought not to stare. What if they see you?” Gurinman reasoned.

Sesshomaru huffed. “I’m not imagible.” He peeked at the table once more. This time Kagome showed him her tongue.  “She’s so chile-rish,” he snorted loudly.

“She’s not the only one,” Gurinman sighed. “You’ve been spying on them since their arrival.”

“I don’t what you’re talking about. She pied on me first.” His fingers thrummed against the table’s wood. “She’s plotting something. I just knows it.”

“Higurashi?”

“And mother. Jay, it’s so ovious! Birds of together, flock the feather.”

“I think it’s time that we took our leave.” Just as he stood the bartender returned.

“Sorry for the wait, here are the drinks you ordered.” He dished them out to his patrons. “I was held up by two very sexy chicas.”

“Why’s this here?” Sesshomaru frowned. He pointed to the yellow slice floating in his cup.

“A special request from my Lady in Red; for being a sourpuss all hour long.”  Emerald eyes slanted Gurinman’s way. “Anything else?”

“We’ll talk later.”

Kagome raised her cup high in the air. “Yah know? This stuff’s not bad at all!” She took another large swig and belched. “I can’t believe I’ve been missing out! Shippo, this is great!”

“Glad you like it,” he smiled warmly. He placed another basket of bread on the table. “Just let me know if you need anything alright?”

“Sure,” Kagome waved. When she spotted Sesshomaru she made a face. “This would actually be a lot nicer if he weren’t over there cramping my mood. Staring at me like that. The guy needs to go ahead and suck a lemon.”

Lady Kaiya watched her down her fourth cup of Irish Coffee. “Yes, well so much for getting you drunk.” She dabbed salt around her glass and took a gulp of her strawberry margarita. “Who knew you’d be so versatile?”

“Going to college helped a lot.”

“Really? Which school, might I ask?”

“The University of Phoenix.” Kagome nibbled on a piece of biscuit. “But enough with the faux interest. What’s really on your mind?”

“Straight to the punch. I think I may actually like you.” Lady Kaiya slid her glass to the side. Golden eyes flashed. “Your secret’s safe; so long as you sell your role.”

“So it’s blackmail after all?”

“I’d rather not come off as a liar.”

“And you expect me to come off as one instead?”

“Well, you’re so well-rehearsed, I figured what’s one more to add to your collection? I knew you were aware of demons from the moment we first met. Your earlier conversation only proved my suspicion.”

“Can I get another round, please?” Kagome bellowed.

“Darling, think carefully. It’s a win-win opportunity. And if you don’t play, then everybody loses.”

“How exactly will pretending to be someone’s wife benefit me?”

“It’ll keep you from being persecuted by the counsel.” As an afterthought she purred, “and I can return my grandpup to his original state.”

“And how do I know that you can help him?”

“Because only humans can solve human problems. The same pretty much goes for demons as well.”

“But Sho’s half and half.”

“Yet the issue lies with his father’s blood.” Lady Kaiya leaned back and contemplated. “How often does the beast appear?”

“Always every new moon, faithfully. But this time around it came a week ahead.”

Shippo coughed. “TMI, much?” He placed their drinks down and backed away.
