When It Rains by LM Bluejay

Confusion un-Cleansed

Cinnamon eyes fluttered open. “What…happened?” Kagome yawned.

“You fainted at my guard’s appearance.” Sesshomaru got up his chair and crossed over to her bed. “How are you feeling?”

“Like someone took a bat to my head…ow!” she hissed. Her hand shot to the back of her head.  He left and returned with a clear bottle. “What’s that?” she eyed the yellow liquid.

“Something we used to numb the pain.” Sesshomaru offered her a spoonful.

Kagome’s lips formed a straight line. “Not that I don’t appreciate the gesture, but I can’t take whatever that is.”

“It won’t kill you,” he insisted.

“But my answer is still no. I hate taking medicine.”

He sighed, “Very well.”  Sesshomaru sat the bottle down on the night stand and turned. Something caught the cuff of his sleeve. He found her watching at him curiously. “Hn?”

She fidgeted. “Were you here watching me this whole time?”

“Yes.”

“That’s actually a little creepy…but sweet.”

Sesshomaru nodded. “I’ll leave you then.”

“Hang on a sec! Where’s the fire?”

“You wish for me to keep you company?”

“Actually, have you seen my phone?”

It took them half an hour to find it. Another three for it to fully charge.

Sesshomaru sat quietly in the corner.

Kagome bantered with her sleepy son. “Well I was just trying to see what you wanted since…no, I’m not dying…my phone was off while I was…fine! I’ll talk to you later then. Bye.” Kagome hung up and grumbled. “Well that could’ve gone better.” She plopped on the bed. “You miss a couple of phone calls and you’re suddenly the world’s worst mom.”

“Are you sure it’s not because you woke him?”

“Nah, it’s only four. And I’m wide awake. How about you?”

Sesshomaru stood up and stretched. “I’m not particularly tired. Demons rarely need sleep.”

“There’s that word again,” Kagome laughed. “Why are you and Mr. Gurinman so fond of it?”

“It’s because it’s what we are.”

“But you two don’t seem that terrible to me. Then again I don’t know either of you at all…”

He held out his hand. “Watch this.”  His mind focused. A tiny spark ignited into green glowing sphere. He molded its form into a small butterfly that fluttered around them over and over.

Slowly, Kagome reached out to touch it but it gracefully bounced away.

“Don’t,” Sesshomaru warned. “It might burn your fingers.”

She nodded and watched him conjure two more to join the first in the air. Their bodies danced in space above them. Kagome felt her body tremble with excitement. “Wooow,” she slowly breathed. “Th-that was…but you…and then they….wooow. How did you do that?”

“Now do you understand?”

“Yes! I finally do! Everything’s become clear. All this time I thought you were some drug lord when you were clearly a dark magician!”
