He watched her set down two coffee mugs and inwardly cringed at the mismatched pair. The spoon she gave him was plastic, the cream’s brand was ‘Great Value’, and the many sugar packets in the Ziploc bag were clearly from various cheap cafés. Dear kami, she’s a pauper! He was suspicious of the dark liquid in the chipped cup, but her polite smile urged him to take a sip. The warm fluid splashed his tongue and surprisingly flowed smoothly down his throat.

“This is astounding! What is it?”

“Folgers,” she grinned. “100% Columbian blend.”

He almost wanted to faint, but the unexpecting rich taste had his taste buds begging for more. Shyly, he finished his drink and asked for another cup.

She happily obliged. “Feel free to help yourself to more, Mr…um…Green?”

“Gurinman, J. Gurinman.”

“Oh right! Mr. Gurinman. Is there anything else I can get for you?”

“Your honesty will do.”

She blinked a few times. “Um…ok?”

“Ms. Higurashi, I’ll get right down to business.” He whipped out his black suitcase and pulled out a manila folder. “As I have previously stated, I am an attorney of Oni International. We are a private law firm that takes pride in servicing the most prominent of families. I’ve been especially appointed by an esteemed client of mine to track down his seminal property.”

“Ok…”

“And my many months of research have somehow led me to you.”

“That’s impossible,” she sipped from her cup. “I’ve never stolen anything in my life.”

“Be that as it may, the missing goods are still listed under your name.” He pulled out a few papers and slid them across the table.

Cinnamon eyes grazed document and then significantly widened. “T-this is from…but how?!”

“There was a terrible mix-up during delivery between two banks. Now answer honestly. What did you do with it?”

She fidgeted in place. “I carried it to term.”
