Something told him he should have listened. He even heard it in her tone. He had been warned of her outspoken nature and now he was dripping wet. The woman stood fiercely before him…a half empty water bottle in her hand.

Every poke to the chest she gave him had his soldiers’ aura laced with antsy. Her accuracy for hitting the exact spot was compelling. The threats she spewed left little to no doubt. He had no problem recognizing her noble mission: the absolute safety of her only pup.

When she braked from ranting Sesshomaru nodded. “I see.”

“No you don’t! You haven’t heard a single thing that I’ve said.” Her poking assault began once more. “If you don’t start paying attention quick I’m gonna jump. And when I land you better believe it’s gonna hurt.”

Gurinman chose then to come to the rescue. “Ms. Higurashi, that’s enough.” He grabbed ahold of her wrist. “I’m afraid if you attack my client once more his guards will be forced to put you in a cell.” It took her only a few moments to calm down before he released her. “Now then,” Gurinman straightened his glasses, “let’s all go to more private quarters. We can discuss what we need to there.”

They all sat quietly in the sun lit room. Gurinman decided to open the floor. “Ms. Higurashi, I deeply apologize for the alterations of our original plans. We had a bit of an incident at the home front making it imperative that they meet sooner than later.”

“Of course,” Kagome growled sarcastically. “Then why am I here instead of Sho?”

“To honor your request,” Sesshomaru finally spoke. “He will be staying at the guest house under the protection of my brother. And when you’ve deemed me worthy that is when I will personally meet him.”

“That makes no sense whatsoever. And what do mean worthy? Worthy of what?” she scrunched her fists. “It’s bad enough that he’s kind of excited to meet you but do you have to drag out my anxiety as well? My son is being taken away from me and he doesn’t even know it.” Tears began to form while her face battled against looking defeated.

“That is why I have another proposal.” Sesshomaru told her. “In exchange for your judgment of my character you will stay here with us and give me council. No one knows our son better than you and your presence along with him would be encouraging. Do you accept?”

“I-I don’t know…”

“Then I’ll give you time to mull it over. Gurinman, I’ll be in my study.”

They watched him leave the room. Kagome dried the wet streaks on her face. “He’s…certainly a man of few words, isn’t he? Did he really mean what he said?” she asked Gurinman.

“His honor knows no bounds. He’ll take care of you if you let him.”

“I suppose. But why’d he leave so shortly?”

“My guess is probably because you gave him a scare.” He glanced at the Dasani labeled bottle in her lap. “Why did you douse him with water?”

“Because it was purified…and kind of an impulse.”
