When It Rains by LM Bluejay

An ebony nail file ran smoothly across mauve manicured fingers. Champagne wavy locks rested softly on one shoulder. The other held close to her face a bright pink Hello Kitty phone. “Well don’t keep me in suspense. How did it go?”

A male spoke nimbly from the other line. “The mother hen has been compromised. We’re headed to The Nest now.”

“Excellent,” she purred. “I expect that you’ll have them here before night.” Her thumb quickly ended the call. She turned and smiled politely to her guest. “They’re coming!” she squealed.

Gurinman huffed his disapproval. He sat stiffly across from her at the dark mahogany table. “If I may be so bold, My Lady, I think you’re rushing things quite a bit. I mean, for one, the Higurashis are coming from a completely different world than ours and…”

“My son is still utterly incapable of doing anything on his own.” She got up from her leather chair and strode around the room. “If I had left this up to the two of you I wouldn’t have a grandpup for at least another century! Even the mere thought of it is just too cruel. Sesshy may have cold feet but I’m ready to meet our newest member now.  I’ve even gone through the trouble of setting up an extravagant My Little Pony themed bedroom just for her!”

“Him.”

“Him….him?”

Gurinman nodded.

She suddenly stood frozen in place. “Oh dear.” Not another moment had passed before she whipped back out her phone. “Micasa! Repaint the pink room red and cover it with dragons! Yes right away. What about the dresses? Darling, just burn them, they’re probably out of season now anyhow. Yes. Of course. Oh, no dear it’s a boy. Right. We’ll do all of that when he gets here. Oh and while you’re at it could you cancel tomorrow’s spa session as well. Wait. No, don’t. Even our future’s men require good grooming. Ok. Thanks, you’re a doll.” After ending the call the Western Lady smiled triumphantly. “There. Now that should take care of that little hiccup.”

Gurinman sighed and shook his head. “You’re temerarious.”

“Thank you.”

“You know he’s not going to like this.”

“He’ll get over it. Just you watch. His ducking and dodging with meeting them is pointless. The boy should be glad he has a child at all. But enough about poor Sesshy. I’d say a great crisis has been averted.  The most important thing we should all be thankful for is that I have grandson I can now spoil rotten.”

Gurinman resisted rolling his eyes. “About what happened back home…”

“Not now dear,” she shushed him, “grandma’s fantasizing.”
