Prompt: Torpor – (n.) A state of mental and motor inactivity with partial or total insensibility. A state of lowered physiological activity typically characterized by reduced metabolism, heart rate, respiration, and body temperature that occurs in varying degrees especially in hibernating and estivating animals. Apathy, dullness.

Lifeless

My father glared at me and said something I did not quite register. What now? Sleep?

“Why?” I mumbled.

“This is outrageous! Your name alone inspires fear! And you cannot even take care of yourself!” he bellowed. Dragging me from my arm, he led me upstairs to my bedroom. “You haven’t had a decent night of sleep. Come here, son,” he suddenly calmed, talking low.

“No. I do not want to sleep.”

His youki rose and beat me so hard, I stumbled a little. “Stop it!”

“I cannot sleep, father,” I whispered, “No rest for me, only the opposite. Nightmares.”
