Kagome’s smile split into a wide grin and she threw her arms around me.

“You’re so weird with your absurd timing for giving compliments,” she giggled, her head on my chest.

I could feel her heart pounding an exotic tattoo through the fabric of our clothes, her elation slipping through her and wrapping around me. Unable to help myself, I let a smile mirroring hers crawl into my features.

“But I love that in you,” she said, looking up at me.

Then, as if she had suddenly stepped on fire, she turned her head down and bit her lip, frowning.
