As I reached them, Kagome turned and smiled.

“Hi,” I nodded courteously.

“Hi,” Kagome whispered back, blushing sweetly.

Izayoi turned to Rin and grabbed her hand, her expression warm. “Come, sweetie. Maybe we can give papa the tour.”

Kagome’s smile widened, and I took a step closer to her, making her heart skip a beat. She looked so mesmerizing standing in the shadows of the trees, her dark hair swaying softly with the wind. The vivid colors of the vegetation around us were nothing compared to the shine dancing in her coral blue eyes.

“You are a rare gem, Kagome.”
