“You’re awfully quiet,” she whispered into the darkness.

I propped myself on my elbow, hand on my head and facing her, my silver hair a sharp contrast against her black one. The strands intertwined in a way I had dreamed of being connected to her, but I immediately shut off that train of thought.

“I’m a male of few words,” I calmly stated, “but I will indulge. What’s your favorite color?”

At that, she beamed. “Gold!” the word came rushed.

She slapped her mouth with both hands, her eyes widening with terror.

I smirked, and smoothly replied, “Mine is blue.”
