Prologue

BLANKET DISCLAIMER; I OWN NOTHING OF INUYASHA BUT THE PLOTS IN THIS ALTERNATE UNIVERSE CREATION.

Hi! Sorry for the rewriting and replotting everything. I know you might be mad at me for posting and reposting this story. But seriously? I find this version a better one than the other two. I hit rock bottom in the last one and it doesn't even make sense to me, the author!

So here's the latest version and if you are wondering about these weird big words in here, Google it. Trust me, its worth it. For the mermaids and mermen creation in this version, I bought a book on marine fishes just for this story! So I know how they look like and if you want it, create your own Mer based on how you think the Mer characters in this story looked like.

So...ENJOY! And don't forget to leave notes in the end. Your insights a great plot booster, trust me...;-P

Red and blue scales glimmered light jewels under the shattered lights of the sun that passed through the watery ceiling of the ocean’s depth. Crimson fins with silver tips swam lazily in the water, ghostly silver strands danced with the oceans current. Golden eyes with aqua slashes on the cheekbones peered from ghostly pale bangs and the ears on his head swivelled around, his long barbel twitched on his head as he tested the water.

A beautiful voice interrupted his musing, “Inuyasha? What are you doing over there so early?”

Inuyasha turned around, his crimson fins flipping nervously as he glowered at the owner of the voice, “What? I’m not doing anything illegal,”

Large yellow fan like fin with beautiful black patterns swam toward him, her blue green scales glittering beautifully under the morning light of the ocean. Kagome swam toward the CatFish of the Ariidae Clan, a friend of her that she made one day while hunting for apothecary ingredients. She found him entangled in some kind of net in the mud. Kagome came from the Serranidae Clan, though her clan weren’t as colourful as some other or as majestic as the Scorpaenidae Clan, which the Western Royal Family was a part of. Kagome’s black hair danced around her cherubic face as she laughed, “Stop glowering, Inuyasha. My Gramps told me if you kept on glowering like that, your face will freeze in that expression forever,”

Inuyasha pouted, “Hn!”

Kagome plucked seaweed and took a bite, “Aren’t you running late? The castle’s kitchen staff must be up by now. Won’t want to be late, right?”

Inuyasha huffed and dug into his sling bag, pulling out a beautiful shell, “This is for you,”

Kagome blinked, “It’s beautiful,” She gingerly took the shell and cradled it in her hand, “Thank you. You always bring me beautiful things,” She tucked her hair shyly, “I don’t know what to give back to you,”

Inuyasha frowned, spying a dark blue fin swimming curiously behind a rock, “You don’t need to give me anything,” He then smiled at her, “Anyway I’d better go. Don’t want to have a frying pan flying at me,”

Kagome giggled and waved her hand at him as he swam behind a rock and disappeared from sight. She then looked at the shell in her hand, noting the glimmer and beautiful mix of colours on its body, “It really is a beautiful shell,” She strokes its smooth surface, “It is also finely polished. I wonder how much shells he had to pay for this,”

As she swam away, Inuyasha peeked from behind the boulder that he hid behind. He then glared at the owner of the dark blue fin. Scales with patterns like a koi, white and black over a background scales of dark blue and his long black hair tied behind him in a thick rope of braid was the General of the West Oceanic Army; Bankotsu. His large blade striped behind him, his dorsal fin long shredded from him from a forgotten battle with bandits at the border of the Western Ocean, leaving the half torn dorsal fin jutting awkwardly behind him with the ocean’s current.

Bankotsu came from the rather carnivorous Leopard Shark of the Stegostomatidae Clan though his father was a Grey Reef Shark from the Carcharhinidae Clan.

Bankotsu bowed, “Good morning, Your Highness Prince Sesshoumaru,”

Inuyasha glared at him, “Why did you follow me?”

Bankotsu sighed, “The last time you appeared at the Palace in that form, you were stuck in the jail for a day. I believe it is best that I escort you home this time, Your Highness,”

Inuyasha huffed, “Hn,” He swam half the distance and just outside the Coral Capital, he stopped and hid behind a rock. Closing his eyes, he called on the ocean’s magic and his whole body glowed. His jagged blue patterns smoothened and turned darker into deep crimson. His crimson scales that glimmered like rubies glowed and turned pale, as pale as the midnight moon hanging in the heaven’s ceiling and glittered like diamonds. His white hair glowed and grew longer, lightening from off white to pure moonlight spun silver. His face change from boyish and grew defined; the planes of his face became more angular and aristocratic.

His simple fin grew armoured stingers and the ‘ears’ atop his head shrank into his skull as pointed ears grew by the sides of his face. Thick armour like crimson slashes adorned his cheeks and the edges of his pointed ears. Twin beetle wing-like fins grew behind his ears. His eyelids that was once a pale blush now darkened to a deep crimson as his dark silver eyelashes framed golden eyes that seemed to rival the sun open to look at his general. Though the colour if his eyes were warm, his gaze were colder than the Northern Glacier.

His once simple pectoral fins that danced lazily at the sides of his hips grew large and fanned out as well as dorsal fins that attached to his trapezius back muscle, from spiny to soft. His caudal fin grew larger; his caudal peduncle grew hard and became armour-like. His family came from the Firefish family, thus the structure of their body but since merfolks tended to mix around, Sesshoumaru’s colouring weren’t that of the Scorpaenidae Clan but followed after the pale, pastel colouring of the Doederlein’s Cardinalfish of the Apogonidae Clan with some striking stripes.

Bankotsu didn’t flinch as his fin, ghostly pale blush danced by him, his hard armour and sharp stingers grazing by his black shell shoulder guard. Bankotsu sighed as the well-known and well feared Western MerPrince Sesshoumaru swam quietly through the awakening bazaar of the Coral Capital where the Western Neptune Palace loomed over its city with its glimmering pearl white walls. Passing patrolling manta sharks and Hourglass Orca MerGuards whose clan was well-known as terrifying and deadly as their distant cousins the killer whales, Sesshoumaru ignored their salutations and swam through the receiving hall toward the study.

His Majesty Gin sat on his sea sponge chair, his dark blue fin tapping the floor next to him patiently as he read the missive sent to him from the Eastern Water. Noticing Sesshoumaru’s entrance, he spoke, “Your friend Prince Menomaru awaits you in the guest hall,”

Sesshoumaru curtsied to his father with a small bow of respect, “Morning father,”

Gin shrugged, “And your mother the Queen would like an audience with you in the tea room by…well, tea time,” He peered at his son and heir, “Anything you would like to share with me, hatchling?”

Sesshoumaru internally winced. He hated being called ‘hatchling’, which the Mer reserved for young Mer. He knew though, that his father likes to tease him for reaction, calling it a practice for when he will face wayward democrats and nobilities with their sharp tongues. He politely decline, “Nay father. I take my leave, excuse me,”

Swimming calmly toward the guest hall, he almost sliced the throat of the Eastern Prince Menomaru when the merman grabbed his arm and dragged him into a closet. Sesshoumaru glared, his eyes glowing in the dark, “I could have killed you, idiot!” He hissed.

Menomaru smiled sheepishly, his red eye glowing in the dark as his scales glowed slightly with their own light, “Sorry, I just wanted an update about you fiancée,”

Sesshoumaru growled, “She’s not my fiancée,”

“Only because she has forgotten about you and that you think that you are no good for her,” His ‘friend’ retorted. Sesshoumaru flexed his claws, “Don’t tempt me, dancer,”

The closet door burst open as Menomaru hissed as him, annoyed, “Don’t call me that!”

An eep brought their attention to a Nurse Shark Mermaid cleaning nearby. With an annoyed glare from Sesshoumaru, she hastily swim away. Menomaru sighed, “Great, another rumours about you and me and our questionable sexuality,”

Sesshoumaru glared ‘its-you-fault’ at the Fingered Dragonet Merman of the Callionymidae Clan though Menomaru’s mother was a Flyingfish thus his overly long wing-like dorsal and pectoral fins that grew along the underside of his arms rather than his hips. His teal and crimson coloured scales and fins glittered in the water like jewels at they swam to the garden, catching up on each other and dancing around restricted national information. Menomaru then asked, “Have you news from out Northern friend?”

“Miroku, you mean?”

“Uh-huh. He told me his clan will be making their journey westward in the latest missive that he sent over to my father,”

Miroku, whose father has decided to pass on his sceptre to his eldest Prince two years back, will now lead and guide his people safe passage through the ocean for their seasonal migration. Miroku’s people were of the Narwhal Whale family from the Porpoise Clan. Although someone in Miroku’s lineage was an Orca Mer, thus explaining his odd patterns while his tusk grew between his flukes likes so many of the merman in his pod. Miroku has dark abyss coloured hair that he tied into four ponytails, his colouring was a dark purple and violet, coming in beautiful hues and tones on his fin and fine scales.

Sesshoumaru hummed, “Hn,”

Menomaru rolled his eyes, “Again with that trademark hum of yours. Words, Pipefish, words,”
