The Monk

Chapter 216 - The Monk

Purpuratus - clad in purple, a man of high rank (Stella's Latin Challenge)

Miroku quickly reached into his purple robes, pulling out a stack of paper sutras. He began throwing them at the demons that surrounded him, watching them purify before his eyes. Still, just as fast as he could kill them, more came. It seemed endless, and when he heard Sango cry out in pain, he decided it was time for desperate measures.

The monk quickly whipped the beads off of his cursed hand and held it up, sucking in demons by the hundreds. Finally, he could see her, and Miroku rushed to rescue his future bride. He ran, wide eyed, knowing he was going to be too late. He watched as Kohaku's scythe pierced Sango's shoulder, and she screamed in pain. His Sango didn't typically cry out when injured, so he knew the wound was serious.

Miroku made it to her just in time to kick Kohaku off of her body just before the boy could injure her again. He was actually surprised that the first hit had not been a deathblow, and he knew why when he saw the boy's eyes. There was conflict in them, as if he were fighting against the control of his master. Miroku knew he had to stop the boy, but he did not want to kill him if he could help it. But first he needed to see to Sango. The monk grasped his staff tightly and threw up a barrier around himself and his love, along with Kirara, who had landed to protect her mistress before looking her over.

"Sango, are you all right?" he asked, his tone full of desperation. He ignored the feeling of Kohaku's weapon slamming into his barrier. It would hold him, and the demons surrounding him, back for at least a few minutes.

"It hurts," Sango whimpered. "There's no way I can lift Hiraikotsu."

The monk looked over her wound, seeing a deep puncture to just beneath her shoulder. Much lower, and he would have pierced her heart. He glanced around, searching for anything to cover the wound with, but he found nothing,  so he pressed down on the wound with his bare hands, making Sango cry out in pain.

"I am sorry, my love," he said softly, "but I must slow the bleeding."
