The Crush

Chapter 201 - The Crush

"You should have seen the servants' quarters," Kagome ranted as she leaned against Inuyasha where they sat watching the children play with the nannies. "It's cruel to force them to live like that! His mother... I don't even know how to describe her."

"Bitch works pretty good," he replied without taking his eyes off the scene before him.

"And Hana was so shocked that I wanted to fix things up. Is everyone such a terrible person that it's that amazing I care?"

"Servants expect to be ignored most of the time. It's their job to blend into the background."

"That's terrible!" the miko exclaimed.

"It's true. Why worry about it? You're going to make it better, so don't let it stress you out. They're all gonna love you here, and word is going to spread just how sweet and caring you are." Finally, Inuyasha took his eyes off of the black-eared kitsune and smiled at her. "You're gonna change the world, wench."

"No, I'm not," Kagome said with a blush.

"Sure you are. My brother, renowned human and hanyou hater, just mated a human woman and is giving a plot of land in the West to build a hanyou village. The change you made in him... Well, it's going to spread. I bet the next time you go home, your time is full of demons, living side by side with humans like its perfectly normal."

"I really doubt that," the miko replied, shaking her head.

"Fine, but once we defeat Naraku, it'll happen."

Kagome shook her head, deciding on changing the subject. She wasn't comfortable with the idea of changing the past because she had no idea what it would do to the future. In her mind, she was only fixing what she had broken and fighting the dark hanyou's rise to power because it was her fault. Of course, she never planned on become the Lady of the West, and now she had no idea how things might be altered. If she changed too much, she might never be born!

"They seem really good with the kids," she said with a nod towards where Aiko and Aika lay on the floor beside Rin and Shippo, painting pictures.

"Better than the last batch," the hanyou replied flatly, trying not to give away his true opinion on the matter. He hoped that Kagome would hire them because he couldn't keep his eyes off of Aika. There was just something about her that caught and held his attention.

"Definitely," Kagome replied with a smirk. "And on the plus side, she'll keep you distracted so you'll stop fretting so much about Sesshoumaru and I. Maybe if you have someone else to obsess about you'll stop thinking you have to protect me all the time."

"Wench, I don't have a clue what you're talking about, but it'll always be my job to protect you."

The miko rolled her eyes playfully. "You think I haven't noticed? You like the one with the black ears, Aika. Sesshoumaru told me a little about her, from when he was explaining their duties. She's a lot like you."

"Like I give a rat's ass."

"Inuyasha," Kagome said in a motherly tone. "I'll let you be for a while because I know this is a new feeling for you, but eventually I'm going to get the two of you together. You'll make the cutest little puppies together!" she predicted.

"Puppies?" Inuyasha repeated, his eyes wide with shock, causing the miko to laugh, a musical sound filled with happiness. The hanyou's shoulders fell slightly as he realized that she knew all about his crush. There was no point in hiding it. "I'm not having puppies."

"Well, I don't know what they would be called, but they'll be adorable," she teased. "And they'll be just like Shippo!"

"Oh, hell, no!"
