Chapter 187 - The Scribe

*Excellence* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

Kagome was thrilled. Her surprise was coming out wonderfully. Amime had done a great job, and her surprise fit perfectly. Sesshoumaru's eyes were going to pop right out of his head when he saw her, which was her intention. She might be inexperienced, but she still had a wealth of knowledge about sex from her time, and she intended to make sure he knew it. She already taught him a position he never imagined before, and now she was going to introduce him to the concept of lingerie.

Unable to find her way back to the library, the miko headed to Sesshoumaru's study instead. The first thing she noticed when she entered was Atsushi hard at work on his small desk in the corner. She headed over, curious to see his progress.

"Wow!" she exclaimed, looking over his shoulder. "You've copied the characters just as small as they are! How'd you manage that?"

"Is that not how your book was made?" the scribe asked in confusion. Someone else had clearly written the characters that small, so he couldn't understand her surprise.

"No, actually. My books were printed," she started before realizing that there was no good way to explain. "Never mind. It's too complicated. But you're doing an amazing job, and you've done so much already! Have you been sleeping?"

"Yes, My Lady," he said while lowering his head, slightly embarrassed by her praise and concern.

"I have been making sure he stops at a reasonable hour," Sesshoumaru said from beside the miko. He pressed a gentle kiss to her temple. "Would you like to see some of Seiko's work?"

Kagome nodded excitedly. "Of course!"

The taiyoukai walked back to his desk and produced several pages of Seiko's recreations of the illustrations in her books. He was quite impressed with the former dungeon-master's skill, and he knew she would be, too.

"Amazing," Kagome whispered, flipping through the pages. "He's very talented. I'm telling you now, he'd better never be sent back to the dungeon. He's too good for that. You know what he should be doing?"

"What?" Sesshoumaru inquired with a smirk.

"He should be painting a portrait of the children! We need one. They grow up so fast, though I guess they'll grow up slower than I'm used to."

"While he can do that," the taiyoukai started, "I would prefer he paint a portrait of you. One that I will hang right there over the fireplace."  He gestured to the blank spot above the fireplace in his study.

Kagome blushed. "What would you want one of those for?"

"Because if I cannot admire your beauty in person, I can at least admire your likeness."

The miko's blush deepened as she glanced at Atsushi, who quickly returned his attention to his work. "You already have me, Sesshoumaru. You don't have to try so hard."

The taiyoukai smirked once more at her embarrassment. "I know I have you. That has nothing to do with my desire to have your portrait. I think it would go nicely with the room. Don't you agree, Atsushi?"

The scribe looked up in shock, and Sesshoumaru chuckled. "Y...Yes, My Lord. A portrait of the Lady would look perfect in your study."

"See?" the taiyoukai said. "I am not the only one."
