The Space

Chapter 168 - The Space *Space & Time* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

"Well?" Kagome asked as Sesshoumaru lead her through the winding halls of the palace. "Do you think she'd be okay loose?"

The taiyoukai frowned. "I doubt it. She is clearly still angry about her situation, and I do not doubt for a second that, if given the chance, she would attack you."

Kagome shook her head. "Really? But why? I didn't do anything to her."

Sesshoumaru chuckled. "You gave her a name she hates, a harness she fought like hell to not wear, and are taking her title away from her. That is more than enough, in her mind, for her to rip your throat out. In fact, I am certain she is making plans to do just that. I will not risk your safety for her comfort."

"But being locked up in one room is going to make her crazy! She probably feels unfairly persecuted as it is, and she's never going to change if she's not given the opportunity to do so. She needs space to move or she'll only get worse."

The taiyoukai looked thoughtful for a moment before nodding. "Every day she owes you more for your kind heart, and yet she will never see it that way. I will allow her run of the guest wing, but no further."

"What's in the guest wing?" the miko asked curiously.

"There are several common rooms: parlors, a library, and the like. She will not, however, have access to the other bedrooms. I will not allow her to choose another after destroying her own."

Kagome smiled and nodded. "That sounds fair. At least that way she'll have somewhere to go, a change of scenery. She'll have space to walk around, burn some energy. I'm guessing she doesn't have any friends, huh?"

Sesshoumaru laughed, a rich, hearty sound that sent shivers down Kagome's spine. "Friends? Mother? I have never seen her speak cordially to anyone, at least not genuinely. She only ever associated with the other Ladies of the cardinal lands, and even then, it was a competition for who had more, who was better. No, Kagome, she has no friends."

"That's too bad," the miko replied, disappointment clear in her tone. "It would really help her if she had someone with her. Even though she couldn't talk to them, at least she'd have company."

"A servant can be assigned to stay with her, though I am certain none would enjoy the task."

"True. They don't deserve that kind of torture. From what I've seen, all the servants are great. They were so nice to me in the kitchen."

Sesshoumaru smiled. His angel was amazing. He didn't doubt that she would try to befriend each and every servant in the palace. It definitely seemed like the Kagome thing to do.
