The Delusion

Chapter 165 - The Delusion *Extermination* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

Sesshoumaru signaled for the servants to begin serving dinner while everyone chatted about Kagome's new accessory. When her bowl was brought out, the old Lady of the West snarled and snapped her teeth at the young youkai who was unlucky enough to be the one to deliver it. The taiyoukai was on his feet and beside his mother in an instant.

"You are not doing well in proving that you can be a good dog, Mother," he said in a mocking tone. "Just because you are eating in the dining hall does not mean that you will be served as if you were in your old form. You will eat scraps out of a bowl, as one of your station deserves. It is far better than what I had to eat. Trust me, Mother. Things can get worse. Much, much worse."

When the dog merely glared at him, Sesshoumaru turned his back on her and returned to his seat. He had far more important things to discuss. Apparently, his companions had other plans.

"Oh, Papa!" Rin exclaimed. "We picked a new name for your mother!"

"You did, did you?" he asked, as one eyebrow rose in question.

Kagome grinned. "Yeah, it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be when they told me what they wanted to do."

"Well, what did you choose?" Sesshoumaru was very interested to learn what his mother would be called from now on. He had never thought her name fit her considering the woman had no concept of love. She definitely deserved a new moniker, and he hoped it was a good one.

"Lucky!" Shippo announced. "Mama thought of it, because she's lucky you didn't do worse. You could have kicked her out of the palace to fend for herself like she did you, but instead she's safe, fed, and protected. She got lucky."

"We figured that she would not agree with our assessment, so she is likely to disapprove of our choice," Miroku added.

"Indeed, but what dog gets any say in the name its master chooses for it? It is perfect," Sesshoumaru agreed. The taiyoukai turned his attention to his mother once more, amused by the outrage visible in her eyes. She was surprisingly good at conveying her emotions despite her form, which only made her punishment more fun. "So, Mother, I imagine you heard. You shall now be known as 'Lucky'."

The inu demoness trapped in a mortal canine's body bared her teeth in response but made no sound. She truly was tired of being locked up in one room, and though she was appalled by the way her situation continued to get worse, she fought to keep from struggling to get loose in order to rip that little miko's throat out.

Sesshoumaru gestured to the servant still pouring drinks at the far end of the table while trying to hide her laughter. She approached nervously, afraid she would be punished for listening in on their conversation, but she was quickly relieved. "Ensure that all of the servants know that Mother is now to be referred to and addressed as 'Lucky'."

"Yes, my Lord," she said with a bow before rushing off to the kitchen to share the news with everyone.

Lucky's shoulders slumped, and she flopped to the floor, utterly humiliated. It was bad enough her son and his companions would be calling her out of her name, but for the servants to do so was more than she could stand. She had always known Sesshoumaru could be vindictive, but to degrade her in front of her own servants and instruct them to do the same was just plain cruel! How she wished that she could slaughter them all: her son, his filthy human mate and her friends, along with every single servant. They all deserved it. She was the Lady of the Western Lands, damn it!
