The Devil You Know by *~*Missy*~*

In which Kagome has many questions and no answers

The next day the trio was able to travel again and continue on their way to Kagome’s place of power.  Yet she could not help but look at the heirloom on Sesshoumaru’s back.  Inuyasha’s and his father’s sword, Tetsusaiga.  It reminded her of her friend and former love.  Reminded her that she would never again hear him curse or call her wench.  Never watch him swing his sword wildly around.  Most of all her protector was gone forever.  She remembered what it was like to ride on his back, the smell of his hair and the sound of his voice as he talked to her over the wind.  She would never feel the heartache as he ran to Kikyo again.  There were many things that would never happen now and for that she was truly sad.

But she could not let herself remain sad this way.  She had a duty: She must take care of those cruel individuals that had done this.  To be certain the world would be different when all of this was over.  What would she do with all of this power that she had accrued?  Would the jewel just decide to stay inside of her, and if it emerged, waiting on wish; would her power disappear with it?  She shook her head there were too many questions and she was nearing their destination already.  She would go through many trials, tests to see if her heart was pure and true.  But what of what had happened already?  First Naraku and then Sesshoumaru.  And what of her deal with the two and them not knowing about each other?  Would that affect the outcomes?  Would she be denied this power because she was not acting like a miko?  She was merely doing what she must, but would whatever was giving her her tests agree with her and be able to see that?
