"She'll survive won't she? There's no way she's going to die! I won't let her die! Come back to us Kagome, please come back! We need you!"

Shippo.

"Quiet, kit. She can hear you and will struggle against her bindings if she gains complete consciousness. For now, you must be patient and allow her to rest."

Who is that? The voice is familiar. Why do I know this voice? And what are they doing with Shippo? Why can't I move? ...I don't like this, I don't like this, I want to get out! Let me out now, let me out!

"Kit, hold her mouth open so that she cannot bite off her tongue!"

Abruptly, strong, cool hands arrested her limbs, which she hadn't been aware that she was moving. This was horrible- she could control her body but could not feel that she was, and why could she not open her eyes?!

"Stop struggling, miko. I am aware that this is not exactly the most pleasant of situations, but then again, this is entirely your own doing... Of course you would wish to touch the 'rainbow', like every other foolish human. Rest awhile; you will recover soon enough."

That familiar voice with its flowing lilt -as if everything was somehow amusing- teased at the edges of her memory and she knew it, their identity was on the tip of her tongue- but without her sight, her recognition failed and she once again left in the dark.

What had happened? Something about a rainbow...? Nothing here made sense anymore. Perhaps this was one of those dreams were you believed that you were awake, but in reality you were still dreaming? No... Not even in her dreams did Kagome ever feel quite so helpless.

This was real and it was happening now, and all she could do at this point in time was listen to her kit's smothered hiccups and the soothing words of a familiar stranger.
