The Heroic and Super-Duper Trials of a Girl and a Demon by UnknownRandomness

Trouble

A/N: Just clearing up some confusion: this story is still being updated, just very slowly, so don't panic and freak out if there isn't a chapter for a while. This entry is a little 'meh'. I'm grateful to you folks for being so patient, but no matter how I tried to manipulate it, this chapter came out rubbish. Hopefully you'll enjoy it.

Prompt: Change (Week 45)

Something was different. The demon lord could smell it, taste it in the air, feel it prickle against his skin. It was a shift in the natural order of things and it irritated his yoki. Such changes to the world's equilibirium were not common occurences. In fact, Sesshoumaru had only felt it once before, when his sire had departed from this world and left a momentary vacuum in power. The inuyoukai didn't fully understand it (much to his disgust), but he knew that he had to investigate whilst he had the opportunity.

Striding from his study, he called for Jaken, ordering the imp when he appeared to keep everything under control whilst he attended to an urgent matter. Jaken visibly paled before bowing and hurriedly leaving his master. Sesshoumaru almost pitied his retainer- the demonic energy throughout the shiro had spiked as all the inhabitants felt the alarming shift. It would be an almost impossible task to prevent their animalistic instincts from rising to the fore.

The Western Lord had almost reached the front entrance when a small figure raced towards him on sandaled feet, the sour hint of panic lacing her normally sweet scent.

"Rin, there is no reason to fear, I am going to investigate the disturbance."

His eyes momentarily widened as the child furiously shook her head, negating his reassurance.

"It's not that Sesshoumaru-sama; Shippo is gone!"

The daiyoukai swiftly swept the area with his aura to find his ward's words correct. That young kitsune had managed to slip away unnoticed and was likely lost in some dense, youkai-riddled forest.

How troublesome.
