Prompt: Thread (Week 37)

Word Count: 324

The silken thread whispered against the slightly calloused skin of her palm, as she pinched an end between thumb and forefinger. Kagome drew the small scrap of clothing up to her eyes to peruse it for the fiftieth time since she'd found it at mid-day. It had definitely been left by her mysterious stalker- purposefully or not, she didn't know- and their aura clung to the fabric, but it hadn't given her any insight into whom it might be.

The miko had already dismissed Sesshoumaru as a possibility; after his damning words, there was no way the inuyoukai would return to her- even if she hadn't been aware of that familiar aura. Of course, it could be someone she didn't personally know- a curious passerby or a shy demon perhaps? That was a terrifying thought; with her luck she would be kidnapped by the day's end.

Only this time, if she was taken, there was no companion to rush to her aid. Inuyasha was busy being helpful in Edo with Kikyo, and Sango and Miroku were expecting their first child. Of their original group, Shippo was the only one who knew of her dire situation to do anything about it, and yet, she had no idea of how he was doing.

Kagome noticed that her upsetting thoughts had spurred her body into action, and she was quickly pacing the short length of the cave she called home. She wanted her kit in her arms, his calming presence a soothing balm to her writhing emotions. Images of Shippo crying flashed behind her eyes, and without a second thought, the young woman packed up her meager belongings, pocketed the thread and left the cave with a determined stride.

Sesshoumaru had said she couldn't return until she told him the truth. Too bad she wasn't planning on staying, since Shippo would be coming with her. And if that stubborn dog refused, well... then she would just have to tell him everything.
