Prompt: Poison (Week 23)

Sesshoumaru was enraged. The filthy boar kept imposing on Kagome, and it took all of his legendary self-control to not reach across the table and rip the fool's throat out. He was shaming the East with his drunken behaviour and it would not be allowed to continue. Rising from his seat, the daiyoukai was immensely satisfied when his mother also rose and all the guests stopped eating. 

"It is time for the gifting."

Glancing at the miko from the corner of one eye, Sesshoumaru noticed her distinctly confused expression before turning and leaving the youkai-filled hall with an unnoticeable frown.

Kagome stifled a yawn and blinked rapidly, valiantly trying to stay awake. The gifting had been running for the better part of two hours and it didn't look like it would be over by the third. She had been curious about the event, and had wtched, spellbound, as a small moth-youkai approached Sesshoumaru and bowed low before presenting a box full of rare silks with magical poperties to him. A servant placed it on a rug. After the twentieth guest came forward, Kagome had been more than ready to leave. Now it was somewhere around the one-hundred and twentieth guest and the young woman was falling asleep.

Another gorgeous youkai came forward and said a grand speech of thanks befor handing the box over and urging the daiyoukai to taste its contents. 

"What is this substance?"

"A confection known as chocolate." 

Kagome's eyes snapped open, all vestiges of sleep dispelled immediately. "Don't eat it!" Rushing forward, she ignored the glares from the other visitors and fixed Sesshoumaru with a beseeching gaze. "Please Sesshoumaru-sama. Chocolate is poison for inu." The current gifter began to protest loudly, but she ignored him, waiting with baited breath to see his reaction. 

The Lord of the West stared into her eyes with a blank look, before breaking off a large chunk of the sweet and eating it.

Kagome's heart sank. The chocolate-giver laughed. "See? Chocolate is not poisonous you ignorant ningen. How dare you question this one's morals! Lord Sesshoumaru is fine!"

No sooner had he finished his sentence than Sesshoumaru started coughing.
