The Heroic and Super-Duper Trials of a Girl and a Demon by UnknownRandomness

Drunk

A/N: This is more of a serious chapter. Kinda. Take what you will from it, because I have no idea what this is. It was supposed to be hilarious but it just died on me... Enjoy!

Prompt: Spell (Week 10)

Word Count: 348

Kagome looked from mother to son, then back to mother before dropping her gaze to glare at the contents of her cup. Frowning, she thought about stubborn dogs and chew toys. Feeling distinctly uncomfortable, the miko raised her drink and took a sip, wincing as the sake burned her throat.

Sesshoumaru noticed her reaction and broke the extended silence. "The sake is specifically made for youkai who are more tolerant to alcohol than ningen. Thus, you may find it quite potent."

"That's putting it mildly!" Kagome chuckled.

An attendant slipped forward and refilled her cup. With nothing else to do, Kagome drank the beverage, unused to such strong wine. The young woman surveyed her company over the rim of her cup, wondering why the two refused  to talk to one another. Her earlier attempts at conversation had fallen slat, neither of her hosts willing to do anything other than stare holes into each other's foreheads. Maybe they had some super-demonic ability which allowed them to communicate telepathically, and they were actually having an intense discussion at this very moment?

Kagome hiccupped, feeling very light-headed- perhaps drinking more sake would make the cotton-balls-for-brains thing dissipate? Yes, that was a splendid idea!

Sesshoumaru didn't even blink when the miko fell backwards in a stupor. What with the amount of alcohol she'd consumed he was surprised she hadn't passed out sooner. Nodding once, he stood from his place, bowed stiffly to his mother and left the room with the miko in his arms. The daiyoukai walked slowly to her room, opening the door with his foot and placing her on the cushioned futon.

Turning to open the outer doors, Sesshoumaru started when the miko spoke.

"Why are you doing this?"

He turned back to her. "Because you are incapable of such in your current state."

Kagome's eyes shone like the waves as she perused him. "You're avoiding the question Sesshoumaru."

He held her gaze, unsure of the answer. Suddenly, she blinked and her eyes were confused. "In my current state? Have you cast a spell on me?"

"No. You are drunk."
