The Heroic and Super-Duper Trials of a Girl and a Demon by UnknownRandomness

Aghast

A/N: This is my favourite chapter so far! I actually really like Jaken as a character, so any Jaken lovers out there who think I'm being mean; it isn't out of spite, it's just because- let's face it-  it probably would happen. And I know that Rin is capable of being this... well you'll see. I hope you enjoy! Please review!

Prompt: Scarlet (Week 4)

Rin and Kagome stood side-by-side, smiling and giggling as Jaken scampered around the gardens, trying (and failing) to catch Shippo, who had the kappa's hat clutched in his little hands. The chase had been going on for a good few minutes, with Jaken sqwauking the whole time.

Shippo quickly evaded the toad's grasp to leap over a bed of delicate purple flowers, and Jaken, being loyal to Sesshoumaru and eager to keep living for a long while, barely managed to to stop himself from trampling the flowers. Once Shippo danced back into his line of vision waving his hat however, common sense went out of the window and he catapaulted his small body through the garden flora, determined to reclaim his headgear and slap the cheeky kitsune.

Meanwhile, Kagome and Rin watched the two interact with huge grins. "Jaken-sama is never going to catch Shippo-san is he?"

"No way, unless Shippo allows him to."

The two girls were very surprised when the fox turned to them, eyes sparkling, enjoyment evident on his face. Tossing the small cap, Shippo shouted, "CATCH!"

Kagome snagged it from the air, more out of reflex than a genuine desire to hold it. Raising her eyes from the hat, the miko's glance was drawn to Jaken, whose usually green face was turning scarlet from the effort of chasing Shippo, large beads of sweat rolling down his beak and dripping off the edge.

And in that instant, Kagome felt sorry for him. He was constantly abused by those around him; his Lord used him as a stress ball, the other servants didn't respect him, and she herself didn't give him the time of day. And yes, she had to admit that she enjoyed seeing the toad quake with fear, but he was a loyal vassal and didn't deserve to be bullied!

Kagome had just decided to give Jaken back his hat when he spoke. "Don't just stand there you stupid ningen; give me back my cap!"

Kagome's eyes narrowed to slits as she glared at the kappa.

'Ah. Now I remember why Sesshoumaru kicks him- he's an annoying little shit.' Smiling, she turned to Rin and Shippo.

"Burn it."

The children grinned fiendishly as Shippo's foxfire quickly reduced the hat to ash. A devilish smirk stretched Kagome's lips as Jaken's mouth dropped open, aghast at the fate of his beloved headgear.
