Panic

Prompt: Buoy

Word Count: 518

Kagome sighed happily, the salty oceanic breeze ruffling her hair and clearing her sinuses that had felt stuffed by the cloying, stuffy city air. Sesshoumaru had surprised her with a trip to the seaside after she had expressed a desire to get away from the hustle and bustle of their lives for even a day. It was incredibly sweet of him to initiate something, especially when he had been so very busy with work lately- plus, she had been half-joking when she asked to go somewhere, but the argent-haired male had jumped on her words.

Walking through the surf, Kagome sighed again. this one a sigh of slight annoyance. Her mate may have brought her to the sea, but he wouldn't get in the water with her. The miko wanted to splash him and dunk him under the surface, not to mention be dunked! Of course, those activities required him to get into the ocean.

"Please Sesshoumaru, you don't have to come in very far- just into the shallows."

His glare was flat, but clearly stated his intentions. There was no way the inuyoukai was going to dip a single toe in that large body of cold salt water. Kagome pouted, disappointed that her pleading had yielded no results. So he listened to her when she was half-joking if it suited him, but now that she was serious he was digging his feet in? How did that make any sense!

Turning her head to gaze over the vast expanse of open sea, the young woman spotted a distant object and a mischievous idea rapidly solidified in her mind. Peeking a glance at her partner, she was satisfied to see that he was engrossed in a newspaper, but clad in a T-shirt and swimming trunks. Perfect.

Wading into deeper water, Kagome turned to Sesshoumaru, took a deep breath and screamed, panicked,

"Sesshoumaru, look! There's a boy in the water! Come quick you have to see!"

The demon's head snapped up and he swiftly sprinted towards her, ripping his shirt off and diving into the sea, swimming swiftly towards her, his powerful strokes bringing him to her side in seconds.

"Where is he? is he breathing? Do you need help getting him back?"

The worried male spun, looking for the boy only to catch sight of Kagome's grinning face and his frantic movements stilled as her intentions dawned on him.

"You just wanted me to come into the water, didn't you?"

The miko grinned happily, not at all sorry for the scare she had given him.

"Yep! But look, there is a buoy in the water, I wasn't lying."

Sesshoumaru's gaze followed her outstretched finger to a round shape bobbing on the surface of the sea, almost unnoticeable due to its weathered surface.

Kagome couldn't help but grin even wider as the inu's gaze snapped back to her face. Her voice was giggle-filled as she said,

"I didn't lie, you just misinterpreted my words. And now that you're here, let's play!"

Her giggles turned into belly-laughs as she took in Sesshoumaru's peeved expression. Sometimes, he was so easy to trick.
