Meal (Part I)

Prompt: Aroma

Word Count: 410

The young woman smirked triumphantly as her mate rose from the sofa and stalked over to her, placing his hands on either side of her apron-covered body as he nuzzled the back of her damp neck.

"What are you cooking, mate? It smells absolutely divine; although this one doubts that the Kami could create something so exquisite."

Kagome couldn't help but giggle at the inuyoukai's overflowing praise- that was one thing she loved about him; nothing he ever did was half-hearted. If he decided to compliment her, he would compliment her until she was embarrassed and sputtering.

"It's an Indian curry, but with my own personal Japanese twist!" She whirled around and kissed her human cage on the nose, then whispered,

"But I cannot tell you what that is because it is a secret!"

Sesshoumaru's eyebrows rose, but he didn't press her for answers, to her great satisfaction. With his sharp senses, he would quickly find out in due course; if he didn't see it in the pot either. Secretly though, she hoped that he wouldn't be able to identify the ingredients and she could have something she excelled at.

Shooing him away from the work surface, the miko couldn't stop a small smile creeping onto her face, pleased that he liked the aroma of her newest "experiment". He had wrinkled his nose up at the last one, and refused to try it or even apologise for his childish behaviour when she became upset.

Turning back to the bubbling pot, Kagome added large sprinklings of spices, stirred and then dipped in her ladle and brought some of the liquid to her lips.

"You added wasabi and shichimi togarashi to it just now- if that is your 'secret', then this Sesshoumaru remains unimpressed."

Kagome choked on the scalding liquid, desperately sucking in huge gulps of air to cool the burning inferno raging in her throat.

Gosh! Did he really have to sneak up on her like that?! He was like a freaking ninja!

"NO, Sesshoumaru, it is not my secret to add wasabi and shichimi to food! Go away and stop bothering me- I almost choked 'cause of you!"

The demon quickly retreated, understanding that arguing with the red-faced woman would quickly find him on the sofa when they went to bed that evening.

Frustrated, Kagome turned back to the curry and stirred it viciously. Why did he have to be so good at working out all of her secret ingredients?
