Distasteful

Prompt: Funeral

Word Count: 270

A little sniffle escaped Kagome's runny nose as she placed the small, plain wooden jewelry box into the ground; a fitting coffin for her short-lived, greedy little hamster by the name of Nibbles. Although he had been the proud owner of the inconvenient habit of chewing through almost anything, the young woman would miss her cute little rodent.

"Good riddance."

"Sesshoumaru!"

Obviously, she would be the only one.

"Poor Nibbles is being put to rest here! Please show some respect for the dead."

The sneer she was rewarded with could have curdled milk.

"It was an ugly and irritating pest with no respect for this Sesshoumaru's belongings; even your obese feline tried to end its pitiful existence." His matter-of-fact tone grated on Kagome's delicate nerves and she glared at him as she patted the earth over the fresh mound.

"Nonsense! Buyo adored Nibbles!"

His incredulous raised eyebrow would have been comical had it not been aimed in her direction.

"O-kay, so he tolerated Nibbles, but he wasn't the one who tried to give the little sweetie a heart attack by transforming into a giant dog in front of him."

Now it was Sesshoumaru's turn to sniff.

"This one thought you were familiar with my true form's size - ten feet is hardly giant."

Rolling her eyes, Kagome muttered that this conversation was over. But as she got to her feet and dusted off her knees, Sesshoumaru couldn't resist from making a final remark.

"Of course, neither of our many attempts succeeded; the stupid little rat managed to kill itself quite spectacularly - those electric wires toasted it rather nicely, don't you think?"
