Knowledge (Part I)

Prompt: Library

Word Count: 633

The young woman stared at the inuyoukai who was intently studying a thick tome on the kitchen table, his eyes roaming across the pages at a speed that astounded her.

It was truly impressive how quickly Sesshoumaru had adapted to the future, how he completely immersed himself in a self-appointed quest for knowledge about this foreign time and in order to facilitate this, he willingly pretended to be a human so that he could roam freely. Modern technology had proved a little difficult for him at first, but being one to never admit defeat, he had swiftly grasped the concepts behind electricity and how it powered many different things. He had even managed to ride public transport- although never during peak times (he said it was too much of a strain for his sensitive nose). The demon had actually requested- well, demanded- to be taught all she knew.

Kagome, understandably being too impatient to sit down for years and recount everything she had ever learnt to the Western Lord, had directed him to the public library. The joy on her lover's face at being in a place full of easy-access information had been apparent, and she was glad that he finally would stop bothering her about every little thing so she could actually get things done!

A week passed in this fashion- he would walk to the library for its opening at eight every morning, whilst Kagome would go to work and catch up on all the things that she had been neglecting during Sesshoumaru's long stints of following her everywhere.

But, as with everything nice, the peace did not last.

"Kagome, occupy this one. There is more that you can teach me." Sesshoumaru looked up from the large book on the surface, his golden eyes glinting with a familiar look of excitement that the miko had come to associate with trouble.

The aforementioned woman sighed, irritated that the daiyoukai was once again disturbing her peace.

"Sesshoumaru. As I have said before, there is a library for you to visit which can explain things to you much better than I ever could. Just go there and get another book."

"That is not possible."

The demon's immediate response caught her off-guard, and she looked at his blank face warily.

"And why not?"

Sesshoumaru closed his eyes as if annoyed that she was being dim on purpose; and Kagome felt her anger beginning to surface only to be completely stopped by his next words.

"This Sesshoumaru has read every book in the library, including the ones in storage. All of their contents have been memorised, yet I am well aware that there is still much more to learn. Thus, you will have to teach me, or provide more books."

Her mouth fell open in shock, before she quickly snapped it shut, once again amazed by the male calmy sitting at her kitchen table. He had read over six-thousand books of various topics and genres and varying lengths in a week.

'He's a monster.'

The thought flitted through her mind briefly and she couldn't help but marvel at how accurate it was. Another thought popped into her head and she turned to the youkai who was still looking at her expectantly.

"Hang on. There were foreign language books in there. Are you really telling me that you read those as well?"

The curious male nodded haughtily. "Of course- English was a surprisingly easy langauge to grasp, regardless of many author's commenting on its strange sentence structures. German was quite challenging, as was Italian pronounciation, but this Sesshoumaru triumphed over them."

Staring at the smug expression on his handsome face, the young woman decided to bring out the big guns.

"Okay honey, let me introduce you to a marvelous source of knowledge known as the internet..."
