Slip

Prompt: Stairs

Word Count: 282

Kagome cursed as her sock-covered foot flew out from under her and she fell in an ungainly heap down the stairs, banging her butt and head on the steps and banister respectively. The shock overrode any other feelings for a few moments before the pain rushed in and she groaned.

As the woman slowly picked herself up from the floor, noting her armful of papers having been flung everywhere when she fell, a random, disapproving noise came from somewhere head of her, and Kagome glanced up to see Sesshoumaru leaning on the living room doorframe, looking at her like she was a useless animal that should be locked in a cage for its own safety.

Angry about his removed attitude, she shot him a sizzling glare, her voice hot and cutting,

“You could have caught me, but you didn’t because you’re an idiot.”

With miniscule movement of his other facial muscles, the inuyoukai somehow managed to raise one of his eyebrows into that doubting and condescending look that he knew she hated.

“On the contrary, dearest Kagome, you are the idiot. After all, this Sesshoumaru is not the one who slipped.”

Even more frustrated that she didn’t have a snappy comeback to hurl at him, Kagome flounced away. Or at least, she tried to, only to once again have her foot slide out from under her body – this time due to the papers she had dropped in her last meeting with gravity’s mercilessness.

He didn’t even have the decency to apologise as she rubbed her chin, a bruise forming from where she had bashed it on the floor.

Stupid demon. She was never going to get anything nice for him ever again!
