Language Barrier

Kagome didn’t know when it started nor why but for the last couple of encounters she had focused more on Sesshoumaru then on the battle itself.  His mouth would say one thing but his body said something completely different. But at the same time she didn’t know what he was truly saying, she felt so confused.  Well, scratch that, Sesshoumaru always confused her.  One moment he would be all, ‘I hate humans with all the furry of a thousand suns,’ and the next he was coming to her rescue.

It was like he was bipolar or something.  Would she ever in even the slightest way understand his motives?  When Kagome had brought these thoughts up during one of their nightly baths to Sango all she could do was speculate on his actions.  Even as a demon slayer with vast amounts of knowledge she couldn’t tell her what she thought was going on.

She couldn’t help but wonder if she was as confusing to other as he was too her.  She was from a different time.  Could it be as if they were trying to surpass a language barrier?  She shook herself out and tried to focus on her surroundings.  While she had been in her thoughts the group had kept walking but she had ended up lagging behind and now her friends kept glancing back at her in curiosity.  “What are you thinking about?”  Sango asked as she gently stroked Kirrara’s small form.

“Do you remember what we spoke about a few nights ago?”  Sango nodded, “Well I was thinking about what we spoke about and had the thought about maybe there is some sort of language barrier going on.  I mean what might be obvious to others because of his behavior might be different to me because they are not actions I am familiar with.”

Sango nodded in reply.  She could understand that.  That was what it was like when she first started working with Kirrara.  “I know what you mean.  That is how it was when I first started working with Kirrara.  Though I don’t understand why it is that this matter is annoying you so much.”

Kagome simply shrugged.  She couldn’t explain it.  There was something in her calling out for him.  This part of her had always been with her but it had become more prominent after she had gifted Kikyou with more of her soul to help her survive longer.  However, as what she could only as her instincts became more prominent, the more she felt as though there was pain shooting through her body as if she was beginning to grow again though she knew that it could be possible for her age it was very unlikely.

With a roll of her head she heard the pops of her joints and she gave a sigh of relief the pain had steadily gotten worse as time had progressed and it was at the point now that whenever she was struck by it, it was like her heart was going to stop.  She had become rather frightened by this especially when she noticed that she had noticed a sharp incline in her senses.  Her sense of smell had become so much stronger that when she was last home it had caused her to faint.  Her hearing had caused her to start getting migraines.  Her sense of taste had made her start to just barely season her meat for fear of burning her taste buds with them.  Her eye sight now allowed for her to see the smallest detail on planes that flew overhead despite the fact that no one else was aware of them flying above them.  Her touching anything not silk was almost painful.

She absolutely hated this she didn’t know what was going on and it frightened her beyond anything else that had ever frightened her and that was saying something with as much as she had seen since coming to this time.  Sucking in a deep breath she forced her thoughts to settle just as a shot pain had her nearly doubling over.  This was the worst the pain had ever been.

Sango had a that time just happened to look back at her when she had nearly double over and hurried to her, “Kagome are you alright?”

Sango’s raised and worried voice had the others stopping to turn and look at them.  “What is going on?”  Shippo asked in a worried tone.

“I don’t know,” Kagome panted as she slowly began to straighten.  “I keep feeling as though I am growing too large for my skin.  I can almost feel as it strains to contain whatever is going on underneath but I have no idea what it is.”

Inuyasha raised a single white eyebrow.  “Wench stop your bellyaching and hurry up.  We don’t have all day to stand here.  The jewel shards won’t collect themselves.”

Kagome’s head lifted only for the group to suck in sharp breaths themselves as bright red irises stared at them from a human face that had foreign shapes and angles that were not normal.  Even as they began to take a step back Kagome’s features shrank back into their normal contours and her eyes faded back to their normal sky blue color.  “Guys what just happened?”  Kagome’s voice quivered as uncertainty crossed her face.  “It was like there was someone else controlling my actions just then.   I’m scared I haven’t been feeling like my normal self for a while; not since I gave Kikyou more of my soul anyway.  It’s just been getting worse and worse.  My senses have all been enhanced.”

Inuyasha’s eyes darkened, “It sounds like how I feel at dawn after the new moon.  It’s like everything before was so clear but then my demon senses come back and it was like I was blind before."

“Exactly!” Kagome exclaimed, “Except that I know I’m not a half demon.  I mean no offense Inuyasha, but as far as I know I am fully human.”
