Chapter 36 - Trouble

*The Firebird's Dance* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

Kagome and Sesshoumaru danced to several songs before a slow song began. When she turned to head back to the table, Sesshoumaru caught her hand and she reluctantly allowed him to pull her close.

"I said no slow songs," she murmured.

"We both know you desire to dance. Do not allow our current situation to ruin your night. I promise not to bite," he said with a smirk.

From the table, Inuyasha grinned as he watched Sesshoumaru and Kagome dance. It was finally happening. When the miko laid her head on the taiyoukai's chest, he knew they were finally making progress. She wouldn't do such a thing if she were uncomfortable. Maybe soon the two would finally get together as they were meant to. The hanyou was certain they were destined to be together. Their love for one another was stronger than anything he'd ever witnessed before and it felt great to play a part in bringing them closer.

Kagome sighed softly. It felt so right, being there in his arms. It made her heart ache in a familiar way. She'd always imagined they were a couple when they danced like this and she couldn't help but do the same now. The difference was it was a real possibility this time. Sesshoumaru loved her just as she loved him. Could she forget all the bad that had happened between them? He really seemed to genuinely care about his brother now. He'd even taken a vicious beating because of his new opinion towards hanyou. Could she trust him? Could she believe that he had truly changed? She really wanted to.

Sesshoumaru couldn't help but run his hands up and down Kagome's back as they danced. She looked so beautiful in her red dress and he adored the fact that it had a low cut back so that he could feel her skin. The way her body molded so perfectly to his had his heart racing and when she sighed softly he knew she was, at that moment at least, happy. Hopefully this was the beginning of a new chapter, a good chapter, where she forgave him completely for his past stupidity and bigotry and allowed her true feelings to show. He ached to call her his

"Well, well, look who it is. An all alone too," Hiten said darkly from behind the hanyou. Inuyasha looked up to find that he was surrounded by all of Sesshoumaru's old friends. "You know you don't belong here, half-breed. Look at her, out there with him. When they're together, where do you think that'll leave you?"

Before he knew what was happening, Inuyasha was hauled out of his seat. He was dragged out of the decorated gymnasium, through a hall, and outside. He didn't make a sound. The last thing he wanted to do was interrupt the moment Kagome and Sesshoumaru were having together. They'd worked so hard to get there. Besides, he could handle himself, or at least he hoped he could. The heavy door slammed shut behind him and the hanyou's blood ran cold. There were more people out there than just Sesshoumaru's old gang. He was in trouble and no one was coming to his rescue because no one would hear him scream.
