Chapter 32 - Dressing Up

This was written for Stella's Word Prompt Game, Prompt: Eventide - The latter part of the day, a period of decreasing daylight from late afternoon until nightfall

It had taken a lot of convincing on the part of both brothers to get her to agree to go, but finally she had. The homecoming dance was the event of the season and neither wanted her to miss it. In the past, she had always gone to school dances with Sesshoumaru.

On her part it was because she had no interest in the other boys at school, her crush on the taiyoukai making them all seem insignificant in comparison. On his part it was the same. He had no desire to take some random female to a dance when he only had eyes for Kagome. They only went as friends, but both secretly pretended they were dating as they danced the night away.

This time she would be going with two escorts, which made her doubly nervous. Add to that the fact that she knew Sesshoumaru returned her feelings, feeling she was still trying to contain, and she was freaking out. This wouldn't be like all the other dances they went to together because that knowledge changed everything. She wasn't trying to encourage him, or give him the wrong idea, and so she'd declared that there would be no dancing with the taiyoukai. That, of course, disappointed him, but he agreed to it anyway, because it was a deal breaker for her. Perhaps he could change her mind once they were there.

And so that evening found them hunting for the perfect dress. Inuyasha was bored out of his mind, but trying to hide it, playing on his cell phone every time she walked away from where he sat. Sesshoumaru was much more attentive. He had no issue with her indecisiveness and he waited eagerly to see her options each time she went to try one on. She was beautiful in everything she wore and he didn't mind spending the rest of his night doing the same.

"So, what do you think?" she asked. "The purple or the red?"

"Red," both males answered simultaneously, though Inuyasha honestly didn't even remember what the red dress looked like. Red was a family color and he knew the taiyoukai would love to see her in it.

"Are you sure? Maybe I should go with white."

"You getting married, 'Gome? No, the red is it. Can we go now?"

Kagome studied the dress and held it up in front of her. "I guess."
