The Fight

Chapter 21 - The Fight

*Fists Blazing* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

The sound of fighting caught Kagome's attention and she, like all the other students, was drawn in to see what all the commotion was about. She was concerned about Inuyasha. She'd seen him going in the direction the ruckus was coming from not long ago with Sesshoumaru and she feared the taiyoukai might have finally given up on the act and shown his true colors.

Recognizing the voices of Sesshoumaru's old group of friends, the miko quickly began pushing and shoving her way through the crowd that had formed a circle around the area of combat. Making it to the edge, she was shocked to find Sesshoumaru surrounded by five males, all who had once called themselves his friends. The taiyoukai wasn't doing well, his lip cut and bleeding and one eye swollen shut. Looking around desperately for her friend, she spotted the hanyou being held back by several others while he struggled to get free.

*Like a Whirlwind* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

She had to stop this! They were beating Sesshoumaru to a pulp and no one was doing anything to help him! The other students actually seemed to be enjoying the action and she even spotted a few teachers in the crowd. Without stopping to think, the miko hurled herself into the circle, wrapped her arms around the taiyoukai from behind, and threw up a barrier. She felt as the others slammed against it, still trying to get to their victim, each cursing as they were burned by her holy powers that circled around her like a whirlwind.

The crowd groaned their disappointment and slowly dispersed as Sesshoumaru's attackers gave up and disappeared into the throng of students. Soon they were alone, except for Inuyasha, who stood just outside the barrier looking confused and concerned. Kagome felt as the taiyoukai's body weakened and she helped ease him to the ground, shifting so she could see his face.

*Lethe* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)

"Look what they did to you," she said softly, gently caressing his stripes on the less swollen side of his face. She knew he would heal quickly enough, but that wasn't the point. She couldn't believe such violence took place on school grounds and no one had tried to stop it.

Sesshoumaru slowly opened his one good eye and looked at her, love in his eyes, before he passed out cold, lost to oblivion. Kagome sighed and held his head in her lap. Finally, her adrenaline level dropped and so did her barrier.

Inuyasha crouched down beside her with a smirk on his face. "You do still care."

"I would have done this for anyone," the miko shot back in her defense. She hadn't thought about what she was doing when it happened. She'd just acted.

"But you wouldn't look at just anyone the way you were looking at him."

"So what if I do care?" she asked. "This doesn't change anything."

"Sure it does, 'Gome. It gives him hope."
