Chapter 20 - Three's a Crowd

Kagome shot a glare at her hanyou friend. He had insisted on eating with Sesshoumaru, who was apparently his new best friend. Inuyasha was trying to include him in everything they did and it was making her insane. All she wanted to do was stay away from the male who had broken her heart. How was she supposed to put the pieces back together if she was forced to be around him all the time?

She refused to even acknowledge the taiyoukai's presence, no matter how many times he tried talking to her, and it was torture. He'd hoped that his display that morning would be enough for her to forgive him but he should have known better.

Kagome was fierce when it came to protecting her friends. He should have expected her to question his motives. She was partially right after all. He probably would never have announced the change in his stance on hanyou so openly if not for her. He would have changed how he treated Inuyasha, but he wouldn't have walked right up to his old group of friends and told them flat out that their behavior would no longer be acceptable.

"Come on, Babe, don't be so grumpy," Inuyasha said after feeling her glare on him for a whole minute. It felt like she was trying to slice him apart with her eyes and he wasn't enjoying the feeling. She was his only friend, after all, and the last thing he wanted to do was lose her. He would be stuck with just Sesshoumaru, who he didn't doubt would go back to his old ways if it became apparent that she was never going to forgive him.

"I told you I don't want anything to do with him," she hissed. She knew she was being rude, but she didn't care. She was certain Sesshoumaru was faking this sudden transformation to get on her good side and she wasn't having any of it.

"He's changed. Doesn't that mean anything to you?"

Kagome simply shook her head full of black locks and Sesshoumaru tried his best not to let the pain show. She was killing him!

"I don't want to deal with him at all. He's full of crap. You should know better than to trust him after how he treated you. It's all an act and I know it," she said while looking directly at the taiyoukai they were discussing. "You can leave at any time. I'm tired of this. It's been two days with you following us around like a lost puppy and I hate it. Don't you care how I feel at all?"

"Don't you care how I feel?" Sesshoumaru replied. "I am serious in this transformation. You made me realize that Inuyasha was not responsible for my family's destruction. I no longer blame him nor hate him. I would never have done what I did otherwise. Do you realize that I am now a target? That my old so-called friends now despise me?"

"So? I never asked you to do that. I told you, I can never trust you again."

Sesshoumaru's already broken heart shattered just a little more.
