All at once the haze clears from her eyes and they widen. Her lips part ever so slightly as if in preparation to speak, yet no sound emerges.

For what seems like an eternity we stay frozen in this tableau, until finally I decide to gauge her reaction by taking a step towards her.

To my relief she does not flee, but instead swallows hard, blinking as her tongue nervously darts out licking her lips. I unconsciously mimic her action, wondering, as I relish her lingering flavor of sun ripened plums, if my taste remains upon her tongue as well.
