My words evoke an immediate response from the priestess; I see embarrassment, disappointment, and ….hurt in her eyes before she quickly averts them to stare at the ground.

Obviously she has misinterpreted my words, but I cannot regret my unfortunate choice of phrasing, as my mistake has given me new hope.

She must feel something for me if my careless utterance was able to wound her so.

As I feel her hand begin to withdraw from mine, I gently tighten my grip refusing to relinquish my hold upon her.
