However, not being very versed in playful bantering I force my lips into a hopefully reassuring smile and in an attempt at mimicking her frolicsome tones I say the first thing that occurs to me.

Lamentably, my effort at levity fails miserably as the words come out sounding like a threat.

I watch as Kagome’s eyes widen, for a moment fearing her brows will be completely absorbed into her hairline.
