The almost inaudible click as the sheath releases its prize seems to cause the mad dog running rampant within my veins to surge with anticipation.

But the eagerly awaited melody of sharp steel sliding free of polished wood never comes as a different but no less welcome sound rings out into the still pre-dawn air; the sound of flesh impacting flesh.

Stunned, I turn my disbelieving eyes away from the now hunched and panting form of the hanyou to see an uncharacteristically stone faced Kagome calmly shaking her hand out as the purple tinge around her knuckles slowly fades away.
