A Man in Love

“Come stai?”  Kagome muttered holding her literature book out to the side.  “What kind of response is that?  He just kissed you stupid!” Huffing Kagome returned to the book she was reading for her Italian Literature class- it was a translation of an old French novel in an Italian context.  She figured that her friends who were reading the French version were probably suffering much worse.

“What’s the story about Kagome?”  Shippo asked curiously.  He’d seen Kagome try practicing some of the words out loud when she was reading the book and wondered about the language she was learning.  She called it Italian but to him it just sounded pretty.

“La inamorata è stupida.”  Kagome stated without thinking.  Seeing her wards confused glance she quickly corrected her mistake.

“Sorry Shippo, there’s a young woman in here who’s in love but with the wrong man.  She left her husband- who loves her- for a man who doesn’t care about her.”  Shippo just nodded wondering why that story sounded a lot like another one that he knew.

“Does the guy find happiness again?”  He asked carefully trying to see if she understood what he was hinting at.

“He does, and then she gets all righteous and goes to a convent- a monastery of sorts.”  Shippo still didn’t understand what the monastery meant but it was obvious that the slighted person in the novel might fall in love again.  Maybe, he mused, whoever had left Kagome the almond blossoms a week ago was trying to make her fall in love again?

A/N: Prompt: Inamorata

I am currently taking Italian 101 so the meager Italian you see up there is what I know so far.  "Come stai?"  means "How are you?"  and "La inamorata è stupida." means "The woman in love is stupid."
