One Last Night

               Kagome looked up at the mountain in front of her.  They were at the base of the mountain with Koga’s pack and both packs together looked on to the mountain with trepidation.  She turned to Sesshomaru and wanted to say something to make the moment important.  She had no idea if things would change in the future, where she would be, what would happen.  But she knew that she had at least one last night to make sure that they enjoyed their time together. He seemed to sense her trepidation because he turned and beckoned her to follow him to a private clearing. 

                “What is wrong Kagome?” Sesshomaru asked watching her as she sat on the edge of a riverbank. 

                “What do you think will happen tomorrow?”  Kagome asked slowly.  “I don’t want to lose you Sesshomaru.  I love you.  And I don’t know what the jewel will eventually decide.”  Sesshomaru approached her softly and took a seat next to her. 

                “Kagome,”  he began, “if anything happens I know that I will find you.”  And Kagome didn’t doubt it, he had after all gone to hell to get Rin back.  However, she wouldn’t be going to hell but to the future maybe. 

                “But what if I go to the future?  What if I die?”  Kagome asked carefully.  Sesshomaru sighed and took a look at his surroundings. What would he do?  He would try anything- go through hell and back to make sure she was with him. Or he would wait- it would kill him but he would wait just for her. 

                “I will make sure that you will survive.”  He stated with deep conviction.  Kagome looked at him and wondered suddenly if this was what true love felt like.  Is that what it felt like to know that you were so in love with someone that just thinking of not being with them hurt your heart so? 

                “I love you.”  She stated feeling the need to say it.  It was more like a plea at the moment, more like something that she had to say to make sure that it was real. 

                “And I you.”  Sesshomaru stated before taking her cheek in his hands.  “Come spend the night here with me tonight.  Just us.”  And Kagome didn’t think twice before leaning into his embrace.
