Chapter 156: Gate Keepers

“Are you okay, Sesshoumaru? I know that these steps can be a bit of a doozy.”

The Taishou male shook his head, a short breath passing through his lips. “The stairs are not the issue,” he answered.

Kagome lifted a brow. “Then what is?”

“How many gates are there?” he asked instead, squinting at the looming structure overhead. “I feel strange every time we pass one.”

“Hm… We’ve only got two more to go. They’re just reminders that we’re on sacred grounds. They shouldn’t affect you unless…” She hesitated briefly. “We’re not looking for spiritual people anymore.”
