The Simple Things In Life by Trust

Aroma

Notes: I feel accomplished today. This is the first time I have ever written two fics in one day. Usually it takes me a few days to even write one. Yet again, I am not perfect and I do miss things once in a while. So I am sorry if I did. I hope you all enjoy it!

Aroma

In all the years that he had been alive, he had never smelled something quite like this. The scent was alluring and drew him in like nothing ever had before.  The aroma was sweet yet it smelled slightly of salt at the same time. For the life of him he could not figure out what it was. All he knew was that the scent came from the priestess.

If there was one thing that he did not like, it was not knowing something. He was, after all, Lord of the Western Lands, therefore he had the right to know everything and that included knowing just what that aroma was. Though he would never flat out ask the woman what it was. That would be beneath him. Instead he would wait until she went for her nightly bath, only then would he investigate.

Lucky for him that would be in approximately three minutes. And even better yet, everyone else would be gone as well, giving him an ample amount of time to find the item that the scent wafted from. He watched as one by one the members of the odd party left to do their nightly routine. Once alone, he immediately approached the yellow monstrosity that the miko insisted on toting around with her.

He quickly undid the latch as he had seen her do it so many times before, and began to riffle around through the bag. He was unsure of how the female could fit so many things into the bag, but that didn’t matter to him. What did matter was the fact that there were so many things in the monstrosity that he could not locate what he wanted to find. It was starting to seem like he just might have to lower himself to asking the human just what it was.

It also seemed like his luck had just run out, “And just what, may I ask, are you doing going through my bag, Lord Sesshomaru?”

He mentally cursed his luck for being so focused on the object he was searching for that he didn’t even notice the miko’s presence until she spoke, “There is a scent that this Sesshomaru has not come across before and you will explain what it is.”

The priestess rolled her ice blue eyes at his response knowing very well that she would not get a polite response from him before she answered, “That depends on just what it is that has caught your attention. Care to be a little more descriptive?”

“The object smells sweet and yet it also smells salty at the same time,” he replied, watching as her eyes flashed with recognition.

Without answering him, she swiftly walked over to her bag and knelt down in front of it. He watched as she dug through it for a minute before she let out a sound that expressed her success at finding what she was looking for. Carefully, she pulled a, what she called plastic baggie, out. Inside of the bag was the source of the aroma that he had smelled, “I was hoping to keep these away until tomorrow, but since your superior sense of smell picked up on it already, I’ll just hand them out now. These are known in my time as chocolate covered pretzels. They are really good. Here try one!”

He only looked at the treat she held out to him, not bothering to even attempt to retrieve it from her. Golden eyes watched as she let out an exasperated sigh before taking a bite out of the treat that she had offered him. She chewed quickly before swallowing, “See, it’s not poisoned.”

“So I see,” he began as he stepped closer to her, “Though I am quite curious about the taste.”

Swiftly he leaned over and covered her lips with his own. Surprised by the action, the raven haired priestess let out a started gasp which gave the demon lord the opportunity that he was looking for. His tongue darted into her mouth and began to explore every crevice that it could find.

She had been so caught off guard that she didn’t even get a chance to respond to the kiss and before she knew it, it was over, “It seems as if you were right, Kagome. They do taste quite good.”

And with that he walked away to go check on his ward, leaving a gapping miko in his wake. Maybe next time he would wait until the half-breed was around just to irritate him.
