Holler Me Home by The Norrington

Wisdom In Proverbs

The Miko stood trembling before him, and he watched her with carefully guarded golden eyes.  This was the moment, he was sure, that was going to change both of their lives.  He could not say for sure how he knew this.  Maybe it was the moon in his blood or the scent in the air, but he some how knew that after this night, nothing would be the same any more.  For either of them.

"I...don't know, Sesshomaru-sama," she whispered.

"Nor do I, Miko."

She fidgeted then muttered to herself; "He who hesitates is lost."

"I would not let you get lost," he said flatly, pleased when she relaxed enough to smile at him.

"But," she trailed off, looking at the Bone Eater's Well behind her, "can I just leave my family behind?"

"You were planning on not returning anyway, correct?"

She blew her bangs out of her eyes with a huff; "Well yes, but... I guess I wasn't really ready to leave it behind..."

"A frog in a well does not know the great sea," quoted Sesshomaru blandly, giving to her a paroemia from his childhood that his father used to say.

In the future, he would say it had been Kagome who had reached for him first.  She would say he simply pulled her onto his fluffy cloud and literally swept her off her feet.  But here, in the present, as they flew away beneath a full moon and the stars sprawled out like a map; Kagome clutched securely in his arms and her head cradled against his neck, none of that would matter.

Because now, they were together.

A/N: That turned out much more romantic than I had originally intended.  The prompt is from Avadrea's Oddities Challenge, and it was Paroemia.  1/8/13
