Savages

Mrs. Higurashi was a lot of things.  She was a wife, a sister, a grand daughter.  She was understanding, intelligent, whimsical, supportive.  She was a Shrine Maiden, a cook, and she had once been in love with a very good man.  But the one thing that people seemed to forget was this:

Above all else, she was a mother.  She watched her children very closely, and she loved them.  Supported them.  Worried about them.  And when Kagome went off with a wave and a smile, she waved and smiled back, but she worried that this time would be the last.  Would her daughter come back this time?  Or would she be killed by a demon?  Would something worse happen?  When her daughter had told her about Inuyasha demonic side, she has been ashamed of herself at the sudden distrust she had in the hanyou.  But the truth of the matter was...

No matter how much her daughter said they were very much like humans, they were not.  They were animals wrapped in human guise.  They were savages.  She bit her lip, her brow furrowed with stress.  All they understood were instinct and war, and although her daughter was a bit of a savage in her own right, with her loud speech, bravery, and willingness to fight, she was in fact delicate in comparison.  But...

She thought of the happiness in her daughter's eyes when Inuyasha had told her that Sesshomaru was back with the group for a while.  She thought of the excitement that had left Kagome fumbling and Inuyasha grumbling.  Some one who could put that light in her eyes, after the heart break she had suffered with Inuyasha...

Some one who did that, could not possibly be a total savage.  Perhaps...this Sesshomaru would treat Kagome the way she deserved.  With love, yet a firm hand.  With gentleness, but with excitement.

Delicately, with a little bit of savagry.

A/N:  I was going to write something much fluffier for this prompt, but I was in one of my more serious moods.  The prompt was from Luna's Weekly Prompts, and it was Delicate.  1/1/13
