There Is Light

Her life had not always been happy.  The death of her father had put a shadow on her childhood that followed her into her teenage years.  And her teenage years were another thing all together: pulled into a mysterious Well, she had been plagued by creatures out to destroy her, honor-bound to a past that she believed she did not belong in, and cursed with unrequited love.  Oh, the life of Kagome Higurashi had, at one point in time, seemed quite bleak.  

As she gazed out her children from the side of her mate, however, her thoughts were not on the death that had followed her from when she was a child.  She did not think of the heart break of her first love.  She did not think about the grueling quest that had slowly but surely begun to wear her down.  

In fact, she did not really think at all.

As she leaned back into the embrace of Sesshomaru and watched her son try to teach her young daughter her first word, there were no thoughts.  Only feelings.

Peace.  Strength.  Freedom.  Ebullience.  Love.  

The start of her life may not have been the happiest... but the rest of it would be.
