Holler Me Home by The Norrington

Ship In The Night

Kagome fell to her knees as if in slow motion, blood bubbling up from between her lips and spilling down her chin in a red strip.  Inuyasha screamed, his voice lost in the turmoil of the battle.  She stared down at the barbed tentacle spearing out the front of her chest as though she were in a dream.  With a sickening crunch and a spill of blood, Naraku ripped the tentacle from her body, and she fell the rest of the way to ground, shuddering.

The world was starting to blur into one big color.  The ringing in her ears drowned all other sound, and she idly thought that for death, this was oddly painless.  If this was death, it wasn't so bad, really.  True, breathing was a labor.  Every breath she drew stabbed new pain through her chest.  Blearily, she stared around, searching for something, some one, anything solid in the sea of mashed together colors.

He loomed from the blur like a ship in the night.  The blade in his hand was a sliver of silver brightness that nearly stung her darkening eyes.  He stopped before her, pristine in the gloom, a star in the night.  Somehow, she found his eyes, burning gold that shone straight into her soul.

Blackness slowly took her vision as she tried to speak, but was unable.

Sesshomaru...  Sesshomaru.  She struggled, trying to scream now.  SESSHOMARU!

All light faded.  All noise stopped.

Foudroyant light broke the darkness, wonderful sound broke the stillness, and she gasped in life, and wept in love.

A/N:  This was for Avadrea's Oddities Challenge and the prompt was Foudroyant.  I am very pleased with this chapter.  I'm not sure why.  2/28/13
