Holler Me Home by The Norrington

The Girl, The Fox, and the Dog

Sesshomaru heard the squeak of a floor board before he saw her.  Gold eyes slanted towards the kitchen door just as it creaked open, and in peeked a pair of bright, hopeful brown eyes.  Rin dimpled prettily at him, and he huffed in amusement.  His mate had just recently finished her 'Christmas Baking' as she called it, and on the counter space cooled racks of cookies, heaps of muffins, and four pies steamed temptingly.  Kagome had gone to clean up, and had left him with strict instructions to let no one have a nibble.  Although he felt this was a waste of his guarding prowess, he had still promised.

Eyeing his lingering ward, he decided he couldn't blame Rin for trying.  The aroma of these things was almost too much for him to resist himself.  Rin's eyes clung to the cookies.

"Rin."

"Yes, Sesshomaru-sama?" she asked, just glanching at him as he approached her.

Gently, he placed his hand on her head, turned her around while she giggled, and said, "Go do something other than stalk baked goods."

With a grin, she replied, "Yes, Sesshomaru-sama!"  And she skipped away down the hall, humming.

With a snort, he turned back to his post and froze, eyes widening slightly.  Every cookie from one tray was missing; all that was left was the crumbs.  He sniffed, and suddenly cursed the thickness of the baking aroma; he could smell nothing other than goodness!  His eyes narrowed, and he was down the hall after Rin.

He found them sitting together on her bed, feasting on the stolen cookies.  Both culprits froze in their munching, and Sesshomaru was somewhat mollified to see the fox kit had developed a slight tremble.  Serve Shippo right, for thinking he could escape him.  All thoughts such as this stopped, however, when Rin held out a cookie with a smile.

"Would Sesshomaru-same like one?"

When Kagome returned to the kitchen, bright and fresh from her bath, she was not suprised to find both her mate, and a whole tray of cookies missing.  She was also not suprised to find little fox prints in the flour that had been left on the counter.

She giggled;  "I knew they'd break him."
