Disclaimer: Though it saddens me to say it, I don’t own anything relating to Takahashi-sensei’s Inuyasha. However, the plot and/or ideas of this drabble series do belong to me.

A/N: Kinda just rolled with this one. :) Update 1 of 3.

Chapter 50: Rarity

He had never been a very talkative person.

Some had called him strange, others had thought he was an abnormality. Many wondered why he was so different, and why he refused to be like everyone else. He did not function like the rest of them did, though he could not and would not even if he’d had the chance to. He was a freak of nature in their society–something unknown. Something to be feared. A being in the guise of a man, yet something more.

Humans, he knew, spurned anything out of the ordinary–always curious and always questioning, but never believing what their instincts told them to be true. They were distrustful, selfish, greedy, and insignificant. They were mere specks on the road of Time, their lives gone in the blink of an eye.

But she was not the same.

Yes, she had a fondness for words and spoke them quite rapidly, but it had never bothered him. Constantly, her bell-like voice would ring in his ears, dulcet tones often weaving a melodious lullaby. Sometimes, his lips would move, and he’d find himself speaking, if to her only. The sound of his own voice would startle him at first, and then his words would melt into sentences, gaining momentum to become breathless caresses–whispers of affection, of loyalty, and of love.

She was a unique treasure in their conformist world. The sincerity of her heart amazed him, humbled him, and pleased him.

Because she was content to be nobody but herself.
