Chapter 49: Adoration

Sesshoumaru smiled as he gazed down at a crown of ebony tresses, exhaling a pleasure-filled sigh. He and Kagome were nestled together on a blanket in their backyard, enjoying the weather as well as each other’s company. Nearby, a cherry blossom tree stood watch over them, ready to provide shade if they needed it.

His wife was currently resting her head on his chest, struggling against the urge to sleep off the food from the picnic they’d had earlier. But eventually, he heard the sounds of her soft breathing, knowing that she had lost that battle. Dark lashes kissed her rosy skin and her lips pressed together into a small pout as she curled into him. The wind played with her hair, and he reached out, tucking a strand behind her ear. For as long as he admired her, he thought that she was lovely even when she was asleep.

And so, with the gentlest of touches, Sesshoumaru brought his other arm around her, keeping her close, safe, and warm. Eyes half-lidded, he pressed his lips to her forehead and imparted the feelings that his trembling soul could never fully put into words.

He loved her. This woman. His Kagome.
