Dearly Beloved by Aviel

Hachiko

Disclaimer: Though it saddens me to say it, I don’t own anything relating to Takahashi-sensei’s Inuyasha. However, the plot and/or ideas of this drabble series do belong to me.

A/N: Have you ever heard of this RL story or seen the movie? I watched the one with Richard Gere (Hachi: A Dog’s Tale) and shamelessly cried like a baby. If you have a dog/pet or you just love animals, you’ll know why. Go watch it if you haven’t seen it! :) Update 1 of 2.

Chapter 38: Hachiko

Sesshoumaru was the epitome of patience and self-control.

But despite what others thought, the Taishou heir did not particularly like these qualities of himself. As an adolescent, he had been taught and raised in an environment where one had to have both grace and ruthless cunning to be deemed the best. According to his mother, to be the “top dog,” one had to keep one’s feelings in check and appear indifferent to one’s surroundings at all times. Since he came from a family of significant social standing, he could not afford to show any weaknesses to those looking to exploit them.

However, if he could admit it to himself, Sesshoumaru was aware that he wasn’t perfect. He knew that he, too, was a flawed being and accepted it, unlike some of the pompous idiots he had had the displeasure of meeting. There had been, in fact, several times when he couldn’t keep a tight leash on his emotions and behaved inappropriately–immaturely–and in public even; his interactions with Inuyasha were prime examples of that. Though these were usually incidents of sibling spats, than anything, they were harmless… for the most part.

Kagome was the only person he had truly dropped his cold facade for. If she had ever asked him, Sesshoumaru would go to Hell and back, just for the smile and expression of love she would bestow upon him.

And if she had wanted him to wait forever to be welcomed back into her embrace, he would gladly do it.
