Chapter 37: Hesitation

Rose-colored lips, as soft as silk, glided over his skin, leaving behind a fiery trail in their wake. Sesshoumaru nearly groaned out loud as they brushed teasingly against his neck, never pressing down fully, but just enough to drive him crazy.

“Kagome,” he rumbled, eyes darkening with desire. His hands gripped her hips tightly as he debated on whether or not to pull her closer or push her away. Deciding to do neither, he waited for her reaction, determined to allow her to do whatever she pleased. It would be her choice to continue or stop; he would never force her to do anything she didn’t feel comfortable with.

At the sound of her name, the woman paused and glanced up at him. The haze of lust cleared from her cerulean hues as she realized the position they were in; she was draped over his body–straddling him–and her hands were dangerously close to the waistband of his pants. Stiffening quickly, she removed herself from his lap and crawled to the other side of the bed, arms wrapped around herself.

The expression on her face was remorseful as she said, “I’m sorry, Maru-kun. I just… can’t.”

Since he had been expecting this, Sesshoumaru merely shook his head and put his shirt back on. And knowing that it would do nothing but antagonize her, he pointedly did not bring up the fact that she had been the instigator of their current activities.

“Do not worry. I will wait until you are ready.”

“But…”

He moved to her side and held her, glad that she didn’t try to escape from his arms. Nuzzling her head, he laid on his back, taking her with him.

“I am with you, Kagome. You need not fear.”

“You won’t leave?”

“Never.”
