Chapter 36: Standstill

The road to Kagome’s recovery was long and arduous.

It had been six months since she had woken up at the hospital, and Sesshoumaru had done all that he possibly could to help her, while keeping her fragile mental state in mind.

There were times when Sesshoumaru had truly believed that they were making progress; glimpses of her old personality would shine through the cracks of her regret, and she would appear to be content whenever he was nearby. Unfortunately, these moments of peace wouldn’t last very long, for out of nowhere, something in Kagome would just snap and they’d be forced to go back to square one.

At the rate they were going, with all of the counterproductive lapses in between, it would take years for Kagome to even resemble a shred of what she once was. By no means was Sesshoumaru eager to give up on her, he’d hate himself if he did, but he knew that things could not continue the way they were currently going. He had hoped that the female would come to her senses and get better with her own willpower.

But as each day passed by, the chances of that happening slipped away.
